Indiana Sports Betting Bill Unanimously Passes In Senate Committee

Indiana Sports Betting Bill Unanimously Passes In Senate CommitteeDuring the Indiana Senate Appropriations Committee meeting, Senators unanimously voted in favor of Senate Bill 552.

SB 552 would legalize sports wagering at riverboats, racinos, satellite facilities, and through a mobile betting platform. It is authored by Senators Mark Messmer (R- Jasper) and Jon Ford (R- Terre Haute) and co-authored by three other Indiana Senators who represent both sides of the political spectrum.

The bill will now move back to the Senate chamber along with Senate Bill 66 which also advanced with a unanimous vote out of the Appropriations Committee on Thursday.

The possibility still exists that these two bills will become one piece of legislation before the Senate votes.

The bills are most likely to be discussed as early as next Tuesday, which is the deadline for proposals to be approved and passed to the House.

The session ends April 29, which gives the Senators ample time to discuss any potential changes and finalize the regulations for sports betting in Indiana.

Any details on the tax structure can also be determined in the House chamber if it is approved by the Senate.
